Why are they used?

Current Sense resistors are used to monitor the current in a circuit and translate the amount of current in that circuit into a voltage that can be easily measured and monitored.

Applications / How do you spot opportunities?

1. Monitor current such as in a power supply, making sure it is not damaged by receiving too much current.
2. Resistor to sense whether or not electricity is flowing in a circuit.
3. To sense how much current is being applied to a battery pack during charging in order to prevent overcharging or overheating in the batteries
4. Measure the amount of current being applied to a circuit from the battery pack, enabling estimation of the battery life.
5. To estimate the rotational speed of a motor, since the speed of a motor is directly proportional to the amount of current applied to it.
