As switching speeds increase and pulse rise times decrease, the need to reduce inductance becomes a serious limitation for improved system performance. The total inductance of a chip capacitor is determined by both its length-to-width ratio and by the mutual inductance coupling between its electrodes. AVX currently supports the most robust line of low inductance ceramic capacitors in the market.
Standard MLCCs are terminated on the "short" side. Low inductance capacitors are terminated on the "long" side and include design enhancements "inside."
AVX supports four types of low inductance capacitors:
LICC: Same size as standard MLCC, 75% lower ESL
IDC: Lower ESL than LICC
LGA: Next generation! Won "Product of the Year" award from Electronic Products
LICA: High cost, high end market
AVX is the only manufacturer currently supporting Pb termination. This option is important for many military applications. All low inductance capacitors from AVX are available with the Pb solderabiity option.
